You’ve probably got a spare terracotta planter or two languishing in the shed. Rather than wasting them select a winter-flowering shrub such as Sarcococca confusa to fragrance the air. Add an evergreen grass such as Carex oshimensis ‘Evergold’, to add some spiky texture, an evergreen fern such as Polypodium vulgare and a trailing variegated ivy such as Hedera helix ‘Goldchild' and pop it by the front door to keep the spirit of the Green Man alive.
