Each spring, the new foliage of this evergreen shrub emerges with an orange-red blush, but as it matures, it first turns yellow, and then mid-green. The leaves are held on red-tinted stems, so the overall effect is very showy - particularly when the pink flowers appear in summer.

How to care for Escallonia Glowing Embers ('Lowat21') (PBR):
Deadhead regularly to prolong flowering. In mid- or late spring lightly cut back any shoots that spoil the symmetry of the plant. After pruning apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted garden compost or manure around the base of the plant.
