Buy Brunnera macrophylla 'Betty Bowring' Siberian bugloss: Frothy sprays of pure white

This perennial dies back to below ground level each year in autumn, then fresh new growth appears again in spring.

  • Position: partial shade or full sun if reliably moist
  • Soil: fertile, humus-rich, moist, well-drained soil
  • Rate of growth: average to fast
  • Flowering period: March to April
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

A great groundcovering plant for cool spots in the garden. In early spring it sends up sprays of delightfully elegant, pure white flowers. These rise on narrow stems, which grow taller as the heart-shaped, dark green leaves emerge, so they never get smothered. If you are lucky and the plant is thriving, you may get a second flush of flowers in late summer. The foliage forms good clumps throughout the warmer months, which is great for softening the edge of paths, or mixing in with other shade-loving plants such as ferns or hostas. It is more tolerant of sun than the variegated varieties, but only if it is kept cool with reliable moisture.

  • Garden care: Lift and divide the plant every two or three years in late autumn.

Perfect for a large pot

Planted this in a large pot a year ago as our soil is not acidic and it has established itself very well. It didn't flower until mid June but was worth the wait with a profusion of flowers which lasted well

Great Service

This Rhododendron was bought as a present for my wife, as this variety blooms in April to coincide with her birthday. It now lives in a large pot at the front of the house waiting for the spring sunshine. It hasn't flowered yet as 2017 will be its first spring with us. The plant arrived very well packaged and in very promptly. Crocus are the best plant retailer I have yet found in the web.

Plant for a shady place

Hasnt really had time to establish in a shady north facing border, but have always found this plant to be well worth its place in the garden
