This stylish set will make a great Mother's Day gift (if you can bear to give it away!). It contains a woven 10" hanging basket, a pouch of compressed compost and two Begonia odorata 'Mother’s Day' tubers. Then, by following the simple (enclosed) instructions, it's really easy to create a beautiful summer display. These begonias are sought after for their lightly scented white blooms, which have a soft pink blush that is more pronounced on their outermost petals. Forming on gently cascading, leafy stems, it will put on a long-lasting display if the spent flowers are deadheaded regularly.

  • Making the compost: Place the compost pellets in a suitable mixing container and add 1.05ltr of lukewarm water. Allow to stand and expand for 30-60 minutes, drain off any excess water and mix compost well. You may have more compost than you require and more water can be added if the compost mix is looking dry.

  • How to plant: Plant from March onwards. Fill 90% of the basket with the compost and place the tubers hollow part upwards, taking care not to damage any shoots. Tubers should be slightly bedded into the compost. If frosts are still possible, place in a light frost-free position keeping the compost moist. Once the risk of frost has passed, place outside. Flowers will last longer if in semi-shade. Keep compost moist and remove faded flowers.

  • Expert’s tip: Empty some of the compost into a resealable bag. Place the tubers into the bag and seal. Place in a warm place. After approx 10-14 days remove the tubers, being careful not to damage the shoots and follow the ‘How to plant’ growing instructions above.

  • CAUTION do not eat ornamental bulbs
