Overwatering

Symptoms

The symptoms for over-watering usually look like the plant is suffering from drought. The plant appears to wilt and the leaves turn yellow or brown and fall off. However, with over-watering there are usually distinct brown tips and edges to the leaves. The roots look disintegrated, like rotten string.

Cause

Over-watering or poor drainage which means the plant drowns and suffocates from lack of oxygen.

Harm

Death, if not caught early enough and remedied.

Treatment

Improve drainage by adding grit or organic matter to heavy soil. For potted plants make sure there are drainage holes in the bottom of the pot and that they have not become clogged up. Reduce amount of water given to the plant.
