Blueberries (and other more exotic things)

Blueberries are vitamin-packed fruits that will fill the gap between strawberries and raspberries. These acid-loving plants thrive in moist, well-drained, acidic soil, but if you do not have these conditions in your own garden, they can be grown in large pots filled with ericaceous compost. They are self-fertile, so do not need a pollination partner to produce a crop, however you will get more fruit if there are several different blueberries planted nearby. It will also help extend the season, particularly if you opt for early, mid- and late cropping varieties. The Blueberry Collection contains 'Chandler' (which has huge berries), 'Bluecrop' (a mid-season heavy cropper that also shows good resistance to disease) and 'Spartan' (a large-berried late variety).
