Harvesting vegetables

Once you start picking vegetables, such as runner beans and courgettes, keeping picking them regularly throughout the summer to ensure a continuous supply. Even the cropping period of French beans can be extended by harvesting regularly. Pick beans once a week when they are still young and tender and courgettes about twice a week when they reach about 10cm long. Pull carrots as you need them provided the roots are large enough. Leave smaller roots in the ground to grow on. Harvest beetroot when they reach about 3cm across to eat as mini-vegetables or leave to grow and harvest later.
