Buy Viola Teardrops Mixed 40 plus 20 FREE large plug plants: Ideal for winter and spring hanging baskets

  • Position: full sun or partial shade
  • Soil: moderately fertile, humus-rich, well-drained soil
  • Rate of growth: average to fast-growing
  • Flowering period: milder spells from autumn to spring
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

Flowering for several months from late winter, the small faces of these pretty violas will bring lots of cheer to your pots, windowboxes and hanging baskets. They are incredibly prolific and will produce masses and masses of their dainty little flowers in a rich, velvety mix of colours. In time they will cascade over the edge of the pots, forming a trail up to 35cm long.

Grown in individual plug cells, each plant measures about 5 - 7cm tall (from the base of the root to the top of the plant). They are ideal for keen gardeners who have a greenhouse where the plants can be grown on until they are ready for planting out in the garden.

Please note that as we grow these for especially for you, we need to take full payment when you place your order so as to reserve stock for you. See above for despatch dates for this particular plant. To ensure that your plants arrive in the best possible condition each pack will be despatched individually.

Been growing these for years

Purchase these every year for hanging pots. They look stunning. A bit 'subdued' over the winter, but still give some colour. Then from around March they come into their own and look superb.

Strong and healthy plugs

These plugs were large enough to plant directly into my wall planters to grow and fill out ready for later. I placed them all outside in a sheltered position to ensure they were fully hardened off. They are all growing well and starting to bud.

Really pleased

I'm a beginner and have never planted up a hanging basket before. These have given many months of beautiful flowers. The plugs I planted in containers now look great trailing over the sides, spilling out down the side of the pot. I'm really impressed and will definitely be buying again.

Do I need to grow these on a bit or can they go straight into a hanging basket? Many thanks.

Hello there These plug plants can be grown on or planted directly into your tubs, baskets or garden. Hope this helps.

I have never planted up winter baskets and containers and I would like to know how many plug plants should I put in a 14inch basket.

Diane

Hello, I think the best displays are created when the baskets are very densely planted, so I would recommend using 25 - 30 plugs per 14" basket.

Plant up summer containers

After the last frost date, plant up containers with tender flowering bedding and reliable foliage plants. Line terracotta pots with polythene, taking care not to cover the planting holes, to reduce water loss through the porous sides of the pot.
