This shrub is deciduous so it will lose all its leaves in autumn, then fresh new foliage appears again each spring.

  • Position: full sun
  • Soil: fertile, moist, well-drained soil
  • Rate of Growth: average
  • Flowering period: July and August
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

Flat heads of carmine pink flowers in mid and late summer and sharply toothed, dark green leaves, often with creamy-white margins. This foliage of this deciduous shrub is an attractive, bronze red when young. Ideal for a sunny, well-drained site, it makes an excellent specimen plant or colourful, informal, flowering hedge.

  • Garden care: Dead head after flowering. In early
  • spring hard, prune the flowered stems to a permanent framework 10-15cm (4-6in) above the ground.
