Buy Potentilla fruticosa 'Primrose Beauty' shrubby cinquefoil: Delicate pale yellow flowers

This shrub is deciduous so it will lose all its leaves in autumn, then fresh new foliage appears again each spring.

  • Position: full sun
  • Soil: poor to moderately fertile, well-drained soil
  • Rate of growth: average
  • Flowering period: May to October
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

Masses of primrose yellow flowers resembling wild roses from late spring to mid autumn, above compact mounds of grey green leaves. This pretty, pale yellow cinquefoil is an ideal long-flowering plant for a sunny, well-drained shrub or mixed border. Generally pest and disease free, although it tolerates partial shade it flowers best in full sun.

  • Garden care: Trim lightly after flowering, cutting the older stems to the base and removing weak, spindly growth. Apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted compost or manure around the base of the plant in spring.

yet to fulfil its promise

I wanted this shrub colour to offset lavenders in the same bed and believed it could cope with quite dry conditions. has not really grown since last year and only one flush of very attractive flowers in the spring. the hot summer is probably to blame and I will try to make the plant happier in this position by enriching the soil in the autumn.

Vigorous grower

Although this grew well in the first year there were only a few flowers. The plant looked very untidy and have had to prune to shape. Seems better now and hoping for an improved show this year although early days.

A lovely long flowering Potentilla

A perfect plant for the front of a border. Not fussy about it's situation and tolerates most soil conditions. Pretty lemon flowers last until the end of the year.
