Buy Exochorda × macrantha 'Niagara' (PBR) pearl bush: With more flowers and a shrubbier habit

This shrub is deciduous so it will lose all its leaves in autumn, then fresh new foliage appears again each spring.

  • Position: full sun or partial shade
  • Soil: moist, well-drained soil
  • Rate of growth: fast-growing
  • Flowering period: April to May
  • Hardiness: fully hardy

This hybrid form is a cross between E. racemosa and E × macrantha 'The Bride' and the resulting plant shows the best characteristics of both its parents. It is shrubbier than 'The Bride', with less splayed branches, but best of all, it produces masses of flowers. It is a deciduous shrub, and as it is relatively compact, it can be grown in the border or in a big pot on the patio.

  • Garden care: Apply a slow-release balanced fertiliser and a mulch of well-rotted garden compost around the base of the plant in early spring.

Lovely alternative to E. macramtha 'The Bride' - selected for its more compact habit.

The shrub was quite a decent size when supplied. As yet, the shrub hasn't flowered, so I can't comment on it's appearance or fragrance.

Pretty plant, bought for pearl anniversary! It lost a few leaves after delivery & we worried it wouldn't survive but it has lots of buds on now ready for spring

One of my daughters bought this for me as a birthday present. It is really delightful. A good healthy shrub with masses of flowers. It is a real eye-catcher in my front garden where I can see it as I'm sitting relaxing. So many favourable comments from neighbours who are intrigued by what it is called.

One of my daughters bought this for me as a birthday present. As usual with Crocus products it arrived very well packed and a mass of small white flowers. It has been planted opposite my living room window so I can see it every day. A beautiful gift.
