Woolly Aphids

Symptoms

Fluffy white, waxy blobs appear on the bark of trees. Early in the spring they are mainly around old pruning cuts and wounds. Later in the summer they spread to younger branches, where their feeding causes knobbly swelling.

Harm

n cold weather the swellings caused by the summer feeding of the woolly aphids can split causing wounds which allows diseases like apple canker to enter the plant.
