Nitrogen Deficiency

Symptoms

Leaves turn pale yellow-green. Later they can develop red or purple tints. The older leaves are usually affected first. Plants also tend to be stunted.

Cause

Lack of nitrogen. Nitrogen is the chemical that is essential in the production of chlorophyll, the green pigment in leaves that allows plants to trap and convert sunlight into food.

Harm

Plants are weakened and will often die if the deficiency isn't addressed.
