Feed the birds

Position the bird table in an open site where they can reach it without danger and close enough to the house so you can see the daily comings and goings. If starlings scare off the other more timid species from your table, try feeding in late afternoon when the starlings have gone to roost. While clearing borders this autumn, bear in mind whether there are any seedheads you can keep to provide food for seed-eating birds, such as finches and sparrows over winter. Sunflowers, teasel are particular favourites but anything can be used.
