Sow colourful annuals

Fast-maturing annuals, such as calendula, candytuft, clarkia, cosmos, godetia and nasturtium, can still be sown now for a succession of colour throughout the summer months. If you live in a mild area, make three or four sowings spaced two weeks apart from the beginning of May until the middle of June. In colder areas, stick to one or two sowings at the beginning of May to give plants a long enough growing season. Either sow direct outside into a prepared seedbed [link] or for more reliable results sow under cover into pots or trays, prick-out when the plants are large enough to handle and plant out after hardening off ,/p>
